The state company for tobacco and cigarettes (sctc) is one of the ministry of industry and minerals companies within the food and medicine industries sector. The cigarettes industry is considered one of the traditional industries century and the production was manually at the beginning in small private factories, those factories merged together in 1963 according to the nationalization resolution and named as The Iraqi Tobacco State Enterprise. Since then the company plan to develop the quality of the products by inserting automated production lines and replacing the old lines gradually .On other hand the company expanded to produce diverse products, so a new factory for producing safety match constructed in 1965.The company owns two production sites in Baghdad ,the first is Baghdad factory in al-karada -nazmiya with total area(25000) m² specialized in cigarettes and match production, there is a printing section in the same site specialized in printing the packing requirements, the second site is Al-Nasir factory in al-sader city-orfaly  with total area (202324 )m²,this factory erected and put in trial operation to produce cigarettes in 1988 . of the company  changed  to (SCTC) according to the state companies law (NO.22) in 1997

The total designed capacity of the factories  is(1154800) carton/year from all  cigarettes kinds distributing as below

The measuring unit is    Carton = 50 gross × 10  packs/gross ×  20 cigarettes/pack       Each carton = 10000 cigarettes

  The company aims to recoup its position in the local market as before year 2003 by development of the factories through inserting the new technology and find an international investor specialized in cigarettes production in order to produce cigarettes with high quality levels and perfect packing appearance , the effectiveness on the general health should be considered aiming to get (ISO) certificate in order to find a good chance for the competition in the local market , so we expect increasing in sales in the local market specially when the government implement the decisions of protecting the national products which including dictation taxes and regulation of quality assurance by (IC.OSQC) .

Investment : Our factories are announced for investment ,the investment files rehabilitation for both factories are modified, so the Arabic & Foreign companies who are specialized in cigarettes production can visit  our factories for looking and asking in order to submit their offers.

A) Sumer king size soft pack : Tobacco blended from ( 65% Virginia & 35% oriental ) tobaccos

B) Sumer king size hard pack :Tobacco blended from ( 75% Virginia & 25% oriental ) tobaccos

C)  Baghdad king size soft pack: Tobacco blended from ( 100% oriental ) tobaccos

Investment of the printing section in SCTC

The printing section in our company / Baghdad factory invested by joint venture contract with Arabic company which started in installation of new printing machines operating with high development echnology so our company can use these machines in printing all the printing matter kinds (  papers & cartons ) and all companies (government and private ) can print their printing matter in our company with competitive prices in the future .

B)  Sumer & Alrashid super king size :Tobacco blended from ( 100% Virginia ) tobaccos

: Generally ,our factories need rehabilitation and development through buying new production lines with new technology and high capacity, the first line which our company signed its buy contract will be erected in Baghdad factory and the other lines will be bought gradually in the future with help from the ministry of industry and mineral.

The Future Plans

: A Compact Cigarettes Production Line, Italian origin from Sasib company which is specialized in manufacturing cigarettes machines, operating with new technology and high capacity (8000) cigarettes/min. The new product will be king size with prefect hard packing and will be a light brand and different in specifications from the previous product according to the market demands and customer^'s desires.

: The  company plans to produce diverse products in tobacco industry field ,so our company will implement results of the research which was done in our company to produce an excellent type from Almassel Tobacco. The company is searching now to find a new technology to produce this product.

The main activity of the company is cigarettes production and the main  mark for the cigarettes produced in both factories is SUMER producing according to the Iraqi standard (ISS-546) ,

         The company works to develop its products as below

A) Adding  flavores to the blended such as vanila, cacao and peppermint in acceptable percentages     internationally

B)  Adding casing materials to keep tobacco moisture and flexibility without bad effectives and fitness for human consumption and approved from  IC.OSQC

C)  Producing new mark with perfect packing

D) Adding stems & filler to the blended to decrease the hard  test and costs

E) Producing light cigarettes with low percentage of nicotine and tar

F) Introducing gifts as sales incentive from match with cigarettes

 Our products satisfying many customers because of the following specialties

 A) National product 

B) high quality blended from oriental tobacco growing in north of Iraq  which contains low percentage of nicotine  and Virginia tobacco imported from well known international origins examined in central health laboratories to prove its fitness for human consumption

C) All raw materials subject to quality tests before using in the production process according to the specifiy  indication 2007

D) Final products subjects to chemical and physical tests carried out by central organization for standardization and quality control (IC.OSQC) according to Iraqi standard  ISS-546

E) Our cigarettes are fitness for human consumption comparing with the imported cigarettes according to the study prepared by Babylon University which shows that the most of the imported cigarettes contain high percentage from hydrizin material which cause cancer  disease while the percentage in our cigarettes from this material is within the acceptable limit

F) Our prices are competitive comparing with the imported cigarettes

   Before year 2003 our products covered around 75% of the market demands because of their competitive price and its high quality according to Iraqi standard (ISS-546), this was due to many restrictions such as taxation ,regulation of quality assurance for imported cigarettes by (IC.OSQC) , after 2003 all the restrictions mentioned was removed and the market became open to different variety of cigarettes with ranging quality wise from best to poor grads with low prices which lost share of company products to lowest level
